Adult badminton resumes on Monday 1st September at 8 pm in Kingston Village Hall. We would welcome a few more players as numbers were depleted during the last season. All you need are plimsoll-like shoes (no black soles as these mark the Hall floor). We have spare racquets - also table tennis which can be played, or watched while waiting for your next game. Come along and have a go. It's fun, and it's good for you. Beginners welcome. If you have any queries please contact Janet Braund, tel 283998.
Want to get involved?
Kingston Youth badminton club is based at the village hall on Monday evenings between 6.30pm and 8pm. The adult club takes over afterwards. It runs from Sept-May during school term time. However you NEED to check the rota to see if we are up and running each week; http://www.kingston-st-mary.org.uk/cgi-bin/rota.pl. We usually have between 5-14 youngsters (aged 10 -17 odd) and always at least 2 adult supervisors. At present it only costs £1 per session to cover hire costs.
I have been very pleased to get this club established with Andy Perry's help, and the kids seem to really value the sport and socialising. I also remain convinced of the importance of local community groups for the kids. However, we rely exclusively on parents/guardians volunteering supervision via the rota. No supervisors...no session runs! login to volunteer
The youngsters are certainly all improving at badminton, and in fact we could do with a few new adult players to put them in their place badminton wise! (I'm trying my best but they are beating me uncomfortably often now!)
IMPORTANT: To slim-line the whole process I will NOT warn you by phone if a session is cancelled, but families will have to check on the site beforehand to see if two adults are signed up. If there is only one name (or less!), it's automatically cancelled. Also please don't phone me if you can't make one of your sessions. Phone around and see if you can find a replacement. As a last resort you can effectively cancel the session by asking Andy to 'unbook' you (in good time please).
Looking at the numbers of parents usually involved, it works out that if every family does 1 session every 3 or 4 weeks then everything is covered. Please book up accordingly this site via the clubs menu, badminton JUNIOR SECTION. Andy can give you a user name / password should you need one @ or on Kingston 415.
This is a small club and everything is done voluntarily. At present we offer no formal coaching, nor is everyone police checked, but there are always at least 2 adults present.
